PS3 Slim, wow, only $299

Following speculation that a 'Slim' edition was in the pipeline, Sony officially announced the Playstation 3 Slim on August 18, 2009 at the Sony Gamescom press conference. It will feature an upgradeable 120GB hard drive and is 33% smaller, 36% lighter, and consumes 34% less power than previous models. The PS3 Slim will also include support for BRAVIA Sync allowing control of the PS3 Slim over HDMI and will run quieter than previous PS3 models. The PS3 Slim will focus on delivering games and other entertainment content and removes the feature to install other Operating Systems to the PS3 Slim. The PS3 Slim will be priced at $299/€299/£249/¥29980 and is scheduled to be released on September 1, 2009 in North America and Europe and on September 3, 2009 in Japan.

slim failed me

It also failed me, it still doesn't haev backwards compatability. I would have gotten one of the launch consoles but it was way too expensive. Now when I can afford a console I am going to have to hunt down an old used console.

Backwards Compatibility isn't really a big deal to me as I have NO Playstation and Playstation 2 games. I will probably get it, as I like this model better. It still has the Blu Ray player and such and a 120 GB Hard Drive so..... yea I think I shall get it.

I have a full rack of PS1 and PS2 games, considering I don't have all the good PS2 games I plan to continue getting more. The console is almost worthless to me without backwards compatability, maybe I'll get a PS4 if it's backwards compatable with the 3.

It's annoying when people say that I should have bought it earlier if if I wanted BC. The reason I didn't do that is it was too expensive. I wish they would have cut actually useless things, unlike BC. I wouldn't mind if it didn't have Home for instance.

I plan on getting one, and getting a few games like Heavens Sword and a few others.

I buy games on impulse so if I want a game I will go to GameStop and search through their collection to see if there are any I would want.

There are other things they could have cut, and the price would have gone down naturally to, not to mention they can do BC through just software, they patented the ability for the Cell to emulate the Emotion Engine a while ago.

We will see how they fair once KMart and other retailers start selling them on September 1, 2009. I will post an update to show statistics on the amount of units sold in a months time.

I own the first model of the PS3 and i can say as a Sony fan that the slimline sucks, it looks ugly in my opinion i mean kudos for the price change they had to do it if they were going to get anywhere.
